What Are the Best Shopping Places in Bangkok? – A Shopping Expedition for the Memoirs
It always seems like there’s never enough time to explore all of Bangkok’s attractions – there are so many! The capital of Thailand is a crucible of attractions, ranging from cultural and historical to natural. There’s one other thing that puts Bangkok on the map: shopping! Dotted with all kinds of shopping malls and markets of every description, the Thai capital takes you on a shopping escapade that meets every single criterion. Below are the best shopping spots in Bangkok.

Terminal 21
It’s not the largest shopping mall in the city, nor is it the most glamorous, but Terminal 21 is a favourite for its excellent layout, stores, amenities, and dining and entertainment options. There are several floors, and each floor is designed with a different theme. Be it Caribbean, Japanese, French, English or Italian – there’s everything and more! You’ll find all your usual designer brands, and there are plenty of local flavours as well, popping up at every corner and taking you by surprise. Plus, the food court is excellent, and the well-appointed toilets are a lifesaver.
Chatuchak Weekend Market
Did you know that Bangkok has the largest weekend market in the world? It’s a bustling retail space with everything you could ever want. What is even a weekend market? Well, the term usually refers to a street market that opens on weekends. Chatuchak Weekend Market, with its 15,000 stalls dotting 35 acres, offers you a fun, unforgettable, and somewhat overwhelming shopping experience. From food to art to antiques, you can find anything here. From Travelodge Sukhumvit 11, one of the hotels near Nana BTS, it’s only a 15-minute drive. You can also get here by bus, the MRT, and the BTS.
Khao San Road
When you hear of Khao San Road, the image that pops into your head is one of backpackers wandering around looking for cheap eats and cheap lodging. While it’s an accurate description of Khao San Road, in recent years, it has become a bit polished. But don’t worry, it’s still backpacker-oriented. From foreign tourists on a budget to locals ogling foreigners, Khao San Road seems to be a favourite with everybody. You’ll find heaps of cheap eats here, along with various trinkets and second-hand books to boot. There are plenty of things to buy here, all reasonably priced. While you wait, you can also get a tattoo.
Senada Theory
Those looking for high fashion and cutting-edge should visit Senada Theory. An award-winning Thai fashion brand, Senda Theory combines homegrown design elements as well as those of Indian origin. The brand was introduced in 1991 as a Thai couture brand, and since then, it’s been a massive success. You can find Senda clothes at almost every high-end shopping mall in Thailand, but their flagship store in Gaysorn Village is a must-visit for fashionistas.
Siam Paragon
With its large dimensions, it’s almost like Siam Paragon is trying to redefine the word big. As one of the largest shopping malls in South Asia, Siam Paragon offers more than just shopping. The mall houses the largest aquarium in the region and the multiplex cinema here features the largest screen in South Asia. There’s also a bowling alley and a concert hall for you to enjoy. In addition to retail stores, there are car dealers, and the food court offers a wide array of food choices and refreshments. Plus, the IMAX theatre upstairs stays open even after the shopping mall has closed.
Asiatique The Riverfront
Sitting side by side with the Chao Phraya River, the Asiatique The Riverfront is a large-scale open-air mall in Bangkok, a must-visit whether or not you’re a shopaholic. With over 1,500 shops spread across 50,000 acres, the Asiatique The Riverfront occupies 10 large warehouses, all combined to bring you an extraordinary shopping experience. Industrial and retro seem to be the theme here, with nuts, bolts, wires, and gear hanging from above. In addition to its quite unusual design, the place also features bars, restaurants, and boutique shops. You’ll need more than a few hours to get the full experience – give yourself a whole evening and grab a bite at one of the restaurants before calling it a night.
